Progress in Iraq

Citizen Smash has a very interesting post up about the progress of the fighting in Iraq. Well worth reading.

He's dead on -- that's exactly the situation, and yeah, the Marines have suffered almost a third of the total casualties this week, as contrasted with an overwhelming number of soldiers -- those units are seeing heavy resistance, no doubt.

I also agree, and have been saying so, that when even the clerics of the opposition start supporting the provisional government, now the elected government, it is the last withdrawal of mainstream public support for an insurgency.

He's also right that a mere lack of open support and a populace willing to take up arms against friends and neighbors are two very different things, far apart on a scale of time. It's happening, though, slowly but surely.
