Gay Marriage Debate comes to my state

FoxNews:

OLYMPIA, Wash. — Washington's ban on same-sex marriage is unconstitutional, a Thurston County judge ruled Tuesday. The decision is the second victory for supporters of gay marriage (search) in Washington state. A King County judge ruled in favor of gay marriage rights in a separate case last month. Both cases will now go to the state Supreme Court, where they will likely be consolidated.
Should get interesting. For the record, my views on Gay Marriage are as follows. Gay marriage will not hurt traditional marriage. Banning gay marriage shows intollerance to homosexual people. States have the right to set the norms of marriage on a variety of levels. There is no 'innate' or 'natural' right to marry the person you choose. Because of these beliefs I would support a legistlative attempt to allow gay marriage in my state, but I oppose a judicial attempt that has the same outcome. For me, the principle of who decides is as, if not more, important that what is decided. That is something our democracy rests upon. I also think that the homosexual lobby would make a lot more progress if they worked to convince the populous that this is the way to go then by working to convince judges.

"Gay marriage will not hurt traditional marriage."

you would think the republicans would welcome the compeition. Those hetrosexuals have had a monopoly on marragie for all history. it is about time someone ended that.

Though gay marriage will not hurt traditional marriage, you have to realize why they (gays) want equal rights. It is about money, insurace, wills, property, goverment beinfits, and so on and so forth. The goverment does many things to encourage marraige (social engineering), tax breaks and so on and so forth. The reason marrage is encourgaed is to encourage the rasing of children (i.e. tax breaks for children). Gay couples cannot reprouduce so therefore run counter to the social engineering goals of the goverment.

If the goverment is going to encourage (what it sees as) good behavior , what will stop it from discouraging bad behavior (ie stopping gay from marring, smoking, speeding).

second to lastly, to many poor and disadvantaged people are ravaged by the insitution called marragie. It is discrimatory toward men, women, enforces gender sterotypes, and places restrictions on the indivdual. The goverment should not be involved in marriage at all.

lastly, when the goverment is involved in marrrage, it must also be involved in the breaking up of marragies, Also in the reapplying of social responsiblity to people that results from marragie (alimony, child support, and deadbeat dads). This growth of goverment is unacceptable.

heh heh
