Secretary of State Colin Powell said Wednesday the United States cannot accept the results of elections in Ukraine, which the opposition says was marred by fraud. Powell warned "there will be consequences" for the United States' relationship with Ukraine as a result of the developments in the former Soviet bloc nation.This is a very important election for Ukraine and will likely determine the course of that nation for a long time. America should firmly stand on the side of a fair democratic practice. My gut feeling is that the Ukrainian people will prevail here and be able to develop a true democracy. The support of the U.S. and other democratic nations is very important in that process though.

I've been following this story and concur. If the election results are fraudulent, which multinational observers say the results are, then the election should be invalidated and a new election held, with safeguards against the types of fraud seen in this one. This is a very important election for them and it needs to be done properly and without bloodshed. :)
