Medical debt the cause of bankruptcy

I am agnostic on the Bankruptcy bill before Congress right now (and which it seems likely will pass) but one of the most cited factors in why this is a bad bill is that half of all bankruptcies are caused by Medical dept. A while ago, Todd Zywicki of the Volokh Conspiracy posted a convincing debunking of the study that asserted this. He attacks this study that from several different directions and raises powerful arguments. It should be noted that he doesn't prove that the contention is false, but he does convincingly, at least to me, show that this is not proven by the study. I have yet to see anyone show how Zywicki is wrong in his assertions. It is very easy to lie with statistics. Perhaps the Bankruptcy bill is a bad bill, but the most common reason given for that being the case seems to me to be an outright distortion of the facts.
